Our Science

LSPA Water quality buoy

The buoy is located in Lake Sunapee near Loon Island Lighthouse from May through early November annually. During the winter months, the buoy is tethered in Sunapee Harbor and continues to collect and transmit some data.

Lake Sunapee’s Food web

The food web is an essential part of the lake ecosystem. Understanding the complex connections between plants and animals helps us to understand the impacts and ramifications of any changes to this delicate, balanced system.

Local Weather Data

LSPA has four weather stations on Lake Sunapee located in Sunapee Harbor, Georges Mills, Herrick Cove and on the South of the Fells.

Ice in/Ice out Data

Ice Out data has been collected since 1869 and recently LSPA started collecting ice in data as well to keep track of regional climate changes.
